The pair has gone on numerous adventures together, the purpose of most of them being to stop the sinister plans of the evil witch Gruntilda. He has returned in the series' latest installment for the Xbox Banjo also has a younger sister named Tooty who lives with him and Kazooie in a house at the bottom of Spiral Mountain. He also plays his namesake. However, Banjo was not born a Rare icon, despite being quickly loved by millions. He was originally planned to be a small time character in a Super Nintendo video game titled Project Dream.
After the Nintendo 64 was released the game was moved to the new console. However, it was found to be too generic and a rabbit was planned to become the new main character. This too was unsuccessful, so Rare tried a game based around Banjo himself which ultimately became Banjo-Kazooie.
Banjo's name is based on a musical instrument of the same name: the banjo. Incidentally, Banjo himself is known to be an experienced banjo-player, although the only time Banjo was ever seen playing his banjo was during the introduction theme in Banjo-Kazooie.
Banjo's personality is very different from that of Kazooie 's. Banjo is a well-mannered, sweet-natured, easygoing bear.
He uses "Mr. While he always means well, he sometimes comes off as a bit slow. He tries to say something witty every now and again, but he usually isn't any good at it. Despite his niceness, he can have short moments of being aggressively straightforward when angry. Banjo flip-flops a bit when it comes to his bravery - at times he will jump into a situation quickly, but other times he acts timid and doesn't want to commit.
In all cases, however, he would much rather sit down and have either honey, pizza or a nap, suggesting he is somewhat lazy. Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge is the third game in the series but the second chronologically.
Kazooie is kidnapped by Gruntilda Winkybunion , whose soul now inhabits a robotic body "Mecha-Grunty". Gruntilda travels back in time hoping to undo the events of Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo has to chase the duo back through time to get his pal back and stop Grunty from mucking around with history.
In the end Grunty is defeated once again when her robotic body is destroyed and she is forced back underground. After beating they're archenemy once again, Banjo and Kazooie head home for some relaxation.
Unknown to them, Gruntilda's sisters had arrived and had revived his arch-enemy. Gruntilda is quick to take her Revenge, destroying Banjo's house and killing Bottles. Banjo and Kazooie set out to avenge him, and meet the King Jingaling , who tells them that he will help them defeat the witch. He shows them the way to Jiggywiggy's Temple , but is turned into a zombie by the witches for this deed.
Meanwhile, Banjo and Kazooie reach the temple and talk to Jiggywiggy. He tells them that if they bring him Jiggies , he can activate the power of the Crystal Jiggy , and open pathways for them. Thus the duo start out on a quest to collect Jiggy's. Eventually Banjo collects enough to reach Gruntilda's castle, and make their way to the top.

Mumbo Jumbo catches wind of this plan by hiding behind a bush nearby, and immediately tells Banjo - but right before he's able to react, Mecha-Grunty kidnaps Kazooie and travels back in time, in an attempt to prevent Banjo and Kazooie from ever meeting. Mumbo Jumbo then uses his magical power to send Banjo to the same point where Gruntilda traveled, to save his friend Kazooie. Banjo would relearn his moves from Bottles' ancestor, Bozzeye , since he forgot them while traveling to the past, and travels by himself for the first world of the game.
After defeating her, Banjo reunites with Kazooie, and they work together to prevent Gruntilda's scheme. The duo eventually enter Grunty's Castle , where they fight Mecha-Grunty for a last time.
Collaboratively, Banjo and Kazooie destroy Mecha-Grunty's suit, causing her spirit to return back into her normal body, under the large boulder. Banjo appears as the titular character of the racing spin-off title, Banjo-Pilot. He has arguably the most average stats in the game, aside from possibly Mumbo Jumbo. Banjo is the champion of Beehive Cup, where the player competes against him at the end, in the dogfight match "Banjo Brawl. In his case, he leaves behind washing machines, which are each hanging from parachutes.
Eventually, they get in a feud with Grunty over who claims ownership over Spiral Mountain, in which L. Unlike his previous adventures, Banjo would utilize vehicles for most of his adventure, instead of using the abilities he forgot over time. Banjo eventually wins the challenge and gains access to the deeds to Spiral Mountain. In Super Smash Bros. An accessory called the "Breegull Carrier" is modeled after Banjo's backpack and also references Kazooie's species, the Breegull.
In the sequel specifically, the Shark Tooth Necklace accessory also appears, referencing Banjo's own necklace, and Banjo's head appears in a mountain on the background alongside Kazooie's. In Kinect Sports Rivals , cards featuring Banjo sometimes appear on the teleprompter. They are available in the "Rare Ltd. Banjo is a brown, stocky honey bear with blue eyes, a large round nose and a bare chest. He is always shown wearing a pair of yellow shorts with a black belt, a shark tooth necklace and a blue backpack, even while under the spell of a transformation.
The Rare logo appears on his backpack, as shown in various artworks. His backpack's design was also overhauled, now opening with a zipper across the top, and having stitches. This design was worked on by Ryan Stevenson , alongside Steve Mayles.
